The era of riots has started.

The transitional phase of the crisis: From restructuring to rebellion

Day by day, the wind of revolt sweeping regions of Africa and the Middle East is increasingly felt. One country after another appears in the headlines of international press; the issue always the same: conflicts between protesters and the police or para-state thugs of every local, usually totalitarian, regime. Despite all the efforts by global spectacle to conceal the proletarian nature of the uprisings and over-emphasize their internal contradictions, presenting the events just as a political "movement for democracy" or as political confrontations between the supporters of such and such politicians in the region, the obvious truth cannot actually be concealed: class is against class. The proletarians use stones, Molotov cocktails and sticks, the cops are fully armed and so scared that they shoot and kill indiscriminately. The proletarians occupy buildings, block roads and burn cars, they burn down prisons, releasing the inmates, and they sabotage infrastructure. Capital gets prepared to impose even harsher dictatorship. It will not be easy for the transitional regimes to stabilise themselves, as they will not be able to meet any of the major standard-of-living demands of the insurgents. Egypt and Libya are, so far, the most serious manifestations of this insurrectionary phase of the crisis. Egypt is important because of its economic and geopolitical significance within the global inter-capitalist competition and Libya, not only because of its significance as an oil-producing country, but also because the state rapidly lost control of the situation, which has caused panic worldwide.

Moscow hacker who put porn on billboard gets jail term

A hacker who placed pornography on a video billboard above Moscow's inner ring road has been jailed for one and a half years, Russian media report.

Igor Blinnikov, 40, uploaded the video on 14 January last year from his home computer in Novorossiysk, a city 1,225km (760 miles) south of Moscow.

The shipyard fitter confessed to the offence, describing it as a "bad joke".

He was earlier sentenced to four and a half years' hard labour for trying to sell 13 grams of marijuana.

Speaking after the new sentence, he said: "I expected a bit less."

He will appeal against it, hoping to get his jail term reduced.

Why: A Tale Of A Post-Modern Genius

Why the Lucky Stiff (or _Why for short) was one of the brightest and most inspiring programmers in activity. He became famous through a series of blogs and through the incredible amount of open-source projects that he maintained over the course of more than seven years.

_Why's popularity grew along with the Ruby programming language's popularity. When the Rails hype took off in 2005, a great number of young developers started looking to learn about Ruby, and that's when most of them found Why's (Poignant) Guide to Ruby, a Creative Commons book in both HTML and PDF that embodied all of its author's characteristics: an uneasy artistic mind with a different take on what programming is all about.

Even those who didn't happen to read the Poignant Guide could not program in Ruby without a touch of _Why's brilliance. He had by then written several libraries that were fundamental parts of everyday programming tasks, such as Hpricot, an HTML parser with an API that somehow resembles jQuery's DOM manipulation API.

You may have noticed that we're referring to _Why in the past. So, the question is, is he gone? Yes. For as much as he was worth to us, we had only his online persona, Why the Lucky Stiff. No one knew his real name or his job or where he came from. There was just _Why in all his eeriness and awesomeness. And _Why is no more. On August 2009, he closed nearly all of his online accounts and websites, including his source-code repositories, with all the code that thousands of developers have come to depend of.

The disappearance has left a horde of orphans of _Why's code and activity. And while no one knows for sure why he did what he did, there are solid theories, the strongest one being that his real identity had been discovered, however weird that sounds. This article tells the tale of this post-modern artist whom people came to know as Why the Lucky Stiff.

15 of the Greatest Black Superheroes of All Time

Black Panther

Arguably the best of the Black superheroes, the Black Panther is the king and protector of the African nation of Wakanda, a technological and economical jewel of a nation nestled in the heart of Africa. The Black Panther, empowered by the Panther God, is endowed with speed, strength, and skill above that of normal mortals. T'Challa, the current Black Panther, is not only a skilled warrior, but also a masterful tactician, fair and just ruler, inventor, and all around master of all he endeavors. He joined the Avengers not for any political gain, but instead to "keep an eye on" the super powered beings that were in the world. Recently T'Challa chose Storm for his bride, and it was revealed that the two had had a history that spanned their entire lives. Their marriage is destined to change the entire course of human history and propel the land of Wakanda to the fore of the world.

Anonymous To Release Documents Proving BOA Committed Fraud on Monday

File this under, connecting the dots, and 'no wonder.'

No wonder Ben Bernanke and his pals created a panel at the Federal Reserve to inform Americans this past week, that there has been absolutely NO FRAUD committed by the Banks and Mortgage industry. (Despite the fact that the Obama Administration is moving forward with cases of fraud by JP Morgan, to protect those in our military).

No wonder the 50 US State Attorney's are trying to rush through a shitty excuse of a bill to 'get the Banks off the hook,' before the shit hits the fan.

No wonder the SEC and AG Eric Holder are letting another big time player go without even a slap on the wrist this week. That's right, Dick Fuld and the other executives of Lehman Brothers are getting away with FRAUD on a epic scale, and as was said in Matt Taibbi's article: "Everything's fucked up, and nobody goes to jail." But that may be about to change, so hold on to your seats people.

From Zero Hedge:

"We urge readers to check into http://hbgary.anonleaks.ch/ first thing Monday - after all this is the portal that released the original damning HBGary evidence, and brought down the firm within weeks. If it can do the same with Bank of America, Monday may just soon be a national holiday.

After Julian Assange crashed and burned in his threat to release documents that expose fraud at Bank of America, many thought he had been only bluffing, and that BofA is actually clean. Not so fast. A member of the hacker collective Anonymous, which singlehandedly destroyed "hacker defense" firm HB Gary, who goes under the handle OperationLeakS "is claiming to be have emails and documents which prove "fraud" was committed by Bank of America employees, and the group says it'll release them on Monday" reports Gawker. As to the contents of the possible disclosure: ""He Just told me he have GMAC emails showing BoA order to mix loan numbers to not match it's Documents. to foreclose on Americans.. Shame." If indeed this makes the case against BofA' foreclosure practices stronger, it certainly explains why the banking consortium is scrambling to arrange a settlement, and also why Bank of America recently split off its $2 trillion in mortgages into "good bank" and "bad bank" entities.

It is unclear whether this will be yet another climax-free build up, but Anonymous has certainly proven their mettle by putting HBGary effectively out of business with one masterful hack. Those I've spoken to in Anonymous are convinced there's something to this. Anonymous has a proven track record with leaks, and Bank of America has been in their crosshairs since they cut off payments to Wikileaks in December. If it's real, it could be big. Keep your eye on anonleaks.ch: It should hit Monday."

Police Return Seized Hardware to Victorious BitTorrent Admin, Trashed

Last month the second case against a UK-based BitTorrent site came to an end. Two administrators of FileSoup - the longest standing BitTorrent community - had their case dropped by the authorities and were free men once again. This week, personal belongings that were seized during the house raids were released and returned, but what should have been a celebration turned out to be a great disappointment.

Google to Launch Major New Social Network Called Circles, Possibly Today

We believe that Google will preview a major new social service called Google Circles at South by Southwest Interactive today. If what we've heard is correct, the service will offer photo, video and status message sharing. Everything users share on Circles will be shared only with the most appropriate circle of social contacts in their lives, not with all your contacts in bulk. Circles may be shown off at an event co-hosted tonight by the ACLU, an organization focused on privacy and the liberties it affords. It may not be a big public launch yet, but it's clear that this is a major product in the works at the very least.

The service has been developed with extensive participation by Chris Messina, the co-creator of numerous successful social and software phenomena online, from BarCamp to Hashtags and much more. Messina declined to comment for this story. Jonathan Sposato, CEO of the photo editing service Piknik that Google acquired last year, is working on Circles as well. Sposato may be the only entrepreneur to have sold not one but two startups to Google - having founded Phatbits, a service that was acquired by Google in 2005 and became Google Gadgets. These are heavy hitting tech leaders and the service should be very interesting.

Anarchists attack Seattle police during Sat. night riot

SEATTLE - A roving gang of rioters smashed property and attacked Seattle police with fireworks, flares and fire extinguishers Saturday night near the site where an officer shot a woodcarver to death last August.

The incident began at about 9 p.m. as an officer drove through the intersection at Boren Avenue and

Howell Street and came upon a group of what appeared to be anarchists gathering there.

As the officer passed through, the group discharged a fire extinguisher at his vehicle.

Seattle, Wa Report Back from 2/26/11: Anti-Cop Action

On the night of February 26th, 20 anarchists dressed in black with masks covering their faces met at the intersection of Boren and Howell (were John T Williams was killed) in Seattle. A banner was seen reading "Cops Murder Everywhere, Bite Back!" (in reference to http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/229). People began to paint around the intersection on walls and on the ground, a roller piece was seen in the street reading in big white letters "Fuck the Pigs". Fences were cut down and thrown into the street. Caution tape was wound around the four poles of the intersection. A cop pulled up within minutes but was sprayed down with a fire extinguisher into his window, causing him to leave immediately. Minutes later more cops came from the other direction demanding that people take down the caution tape, their demands were met with "Fuck you"'s as people decided to continue out of the intersection and up the street toward Capitol Hill. Bunches of tire puncturing nails were thrown steadily behind the group to push back the cops. As the march reached the Hill, the group had grown to about 30 people in black. About 25 flags were seen waving in the air. Around 1000 fliers (http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/202 & http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/220) were thrown in to the air throughout the hour.

An Open Letter To The World

We stand at a unique time in our history, the rise of the internet and computer technology have contributed to an unparalleled rate of prosperity for the First World. We have created for ourselves and empire unlike any other, a global network of constant trade and communication, a new age of technological advancement. We have come a long way from our humble roots in the Industrial Revolution and the days of Manifest Destiny. We are now pioneers on new digital frontiers expanding our domain from the quantum world to the far reaches of space.

And yet, the empire faces a crisis, a global recession, growing poverty, rampant violence, corruption in politics, and threats to personal freedom. As it was before in other times of crisis, the old stories have begun to repeat themselves. The half truths, this time repeated nightly on cable news and echoed through a series of tubes onto the internet: the empire is strong, change is unwise, business as usual is the answer. In times of uncertainty there are those who seek to add to the confusion, to prey on our insecurities and fears. Those who would seek to keep us divided for their own gain. The pervasive strategy takes many very convincing forms: Liberals and Conservatives, Christians and Muslims, Black and White, Saved and sinner.

Intro to Quantum Mechanics

This page is intended to give an ordinary person a brief overview of the importance and wonder of quantum mechanics. Unfortunately, most people believe you need the mind of Einstein in order to understand QM so they give up on it entirely. (Interesting side note: Einstein didn't believe QM was a correct theory!)

Quantum mechanics is based on a correspondence principle that maps classical dynamical variables to differential operators. From the classical equation of motion for a given object, expressed in terms of energy E and momentum p, the corresponding wave equation of quantum mechanics is given by making the replacements

The Strategy of Anonymity

From Vanzetti's Ghost (blog)

"[The hackers] attack from the shadows and they have no fear of retaliation. There are no rules of engagement in this kind of emerging warfare."~Charles Dodd, US government consultant on IT security

Recent events warrant warrant this discussion to say the least. Recently there have been the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, as well as internet censorship by a list of other countries. Also there was security firm HBGARY's (pretty much failed) attempt at doxing or finding and revealing the personal information of members of anonymous. Not to mention the grand jury that has just started reviewing evidence against "members of Anonymous". And a certain government consultant's statement about the "cyberwar". People who stay anonymous and do something are generally considered cowards and immoral etc... And of course the eternal response...

But if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear... right?:

"Hence the major effect of the Panopticon: to induce in the inmate a state of conscious and permanent visibility that assures the automatic functioning of power. So to arrange things that the surveillance is permanent in its effects, even if it is discontinuous in its action; that the perfection of power should tend to render its actual exercise unnecessary; that this architectural apparatus should be a machine for creating and sustaining a power relation independent of the person who exercises it; in short, that the inmates should be caught up in a power situation of which they are themselves the bearers."~from Panopticism by Michel Foucault

From talking to people about the world and society, there seems to be two things preventing the formation of a really effective social movement in the US. Apathy and fear seem to be the two things stopping people from actually taking action, from trying to change things for the better. The apathy is easy to solve. By taking visible and effective action we can convince the apathetic people that it's worth it to TRY. A successful action, uprising, strike or occupation expands the notion of what is possible and also shows the immediate benefits of becoming involved with a movement. So all we're left with then is overcoming fear, or gaining a better relationship to fear and what causes fear. To get there I must digress for a moment...

So all the way back in 1785 philosopher Jeremy Bentham developed an idea for a prison. The Panopticon (a sketch of it is above) was Bentham's attempt to design a prison that functioned as efficiently and as cheaply as possible. The idea behind it being to have the prison administration setup in the middle of the jail. To setup the observation in such a way that the people running the prison could possibly observe anyone at any time. The key feature though, that the prison would be structured in such a way that the inmates would never be able to tell if they were being watched. Here's another picture of a real life prison based off the panoptic model:

Bentham spawned the Panopticon as a prison design, but the principle behind it was meant to be and has been implemented in other spheres of life. Foucault put it great in his essay Panopticism:"it makes it possible to perfect the exercise of power. It does this in several ways: because it can reduce the number of those who exercise it, while increasing the number of those on whom it is exercised. Because it is possible to intervene at any moment and because the constant pressure acts even before the offences, mistakes or crimes have been committed." To boil all this down to real life situations... You ever go into a large department store and look up? Some stores have those small cameras, but some have those large black bulbs that obscure where the small camera is actually pointing. A friend once told me "the larger those bulbs are the more bullshit those cameras are". And it's true. There came a point when I realized that even if there were cameras, they MOST LIKELY were not pointing at me. And if they were pointed at me, no one was probably watching. If the cameras were even real at all. Speeding by the "This speed limit area is monitored by radar/aircraft/statetrooper/fucking santa claus" signs on the side of the highway... Those days in school when the teacher wouldn't collect the homework, or give us that pop quiz like she threatened. All this culminating in the liberating realization that there are too many people to watch at once...

I have to just face reality

The past few months have been great for me, I am no longer homeless and living on the streets. I finally graduated college, have a great job and have moved into my own apartment! I've been spending the past few weeks/months trying to readjust to living as a contributing member of society. So far, I'm making a pretty good go at it (financially). The only problem is.. As usual, I'm finding it hard to make any friends. This has created its own mini-drama of a hate relationship with people in general. I've tried several different things to get to know people and start building a social support system but am having no luck.

So, I think it is time to finally bring an end to attempting to have friends or any kind of romantic relationship. I know it's going to be very difficult but I have to just face reality and get used to being totally alone.

Egypt: a perspective from an anarchist hacker

Egypt might be a good marker for popular uprisings that challenge large existing power structures. I noticed the pamphlets that got leaked by The Atlantic [1] contained street-tactics very similar to the typical G20 blackbloc stuff. The tactic of torching police stations/equipment has Greece written all over it [1.2]. Also, the use of Social Networks to mobilize people on the ground. We are beginning to see our communities endlessly-critiqued tactics being adopted and paying-off.

Then there was the straight up shutdown of the countries routers, by removing them from the global BGP network [2]. This was pretty much the worst-case scenario for Tor. Yet ironically, the government could not shutdown the NOOR route, which hosted the countries Stock Exchange and some Banks. Capitalism ended up being their weakness. Now Tor is routing through NOOR, and Tor traffic has skyrocketed [3].

Anonymous has issued another communique this week, this time in the form of an open letter to the UK government over the arrest of five alleged members of anonymous. It's interesting to note anonymous doing some prisoner solidarity, something we have not seen from them yet. Will we see an anonymous prisoner support group forming (similar to those developed for other movements)? The full text is pasted below and a copy of the original PDF is available here.

A CALL For Liberals To ABANDON Huffington

Adbusters: The left built Huffington, and we can tear it down to

" The purchase of the Huffington Post by AOL left many of the progressive writers and readers that made the site into a powerhouse looking for a new home.

Adbusters magazine set out to unite those disaffected former supporters of Arianna Huffington's flagship site by suggesting they use social media to promote alternatives.

"Socialite Arianna Huffington built a blog-empire on the backs of thousands of citizen journalists," a post at Adbusters begins. "She exploited our idealism and let us labor under the illusion that the Huffington Post was different, independent and leftist. Now she's cashed in and three thousand indie bloggers find themselves working for a megacorp."

But the Huffington Post is not Arianna's to sell. It is ours: the lefty writers and readers, environmentalism activists and anti-corporate organizers who flooded the site with 25 million visits a month. So we're going to take it back.

We'll stop going to her site. And we'll stop blogging for her too. Then we'll give birth to an alternative to AOL's HuffPo by using the #huffpuff hash tag to tell the world about our favorite counter-culture websites and indie blogs.

"We are the ones who built the Huffington Post. And now we will be the ones who will huff & puff it down," Adbusters concluded.

A quick search of the social network Twitter indicated that the hashtag #huffpuff was already being used to propose alternatives.

"My favorite @HuffPost alternative is @therealnews. Join the #huffpuff boycott!" Ben Lucyk suggested.

"Following #HuffPuff? Try @therealnews | @truthout | @buzzflash | @factcheckdotorg | @CatoInstitute | @Truthdig | @AlterNet," James Young tweeted.

Al Giordano, publisher of Narco News, pledged to no longer provide content to the Huffington Post.

"As long as I live and breathe, this online newspaper - Narco News and its pages - will never be sold to a profit-making venture," he wrote. "Somebody has to set a higher standard around this water cooler called the Internet."

Russian Anti-fascist prisoner Rinat Sultanov needs your support!

Rinat Sultanov was arrested in Saint-Petersburg of Russia 3rd of November, in eve of yet another "Day of People's Unity", most favorite Russian state holiday of the fascists, after a siege of apartment of anti-fascists which lasted several hours. He is accused according to statute 111 of Russian criminal codex, "Grievous bodily harm, caused with an intent", for a fight with local fascists, which took place in autumn of year 2008.

Rinat is born from the city of Labytnangi of the far-northern Siberia. Few years ago he moved to St. Petersburg, and immediately took active part to the local anti-fascist movement. He was involved in both setting up anti-fascist websites and street activities. He considers himself as an anarchist and RASH-skinhead.

American Renaissance conference smashed- Again!

The weekend of February 4th-6th 2011, the white nationalists of American Renaissance tried to resurrect their destroyed conference of 2010, this time trying Charlotte NC instead of their usual metro DC conference. NEFAC joined on to a coalition spearheaded by One People's Project and the Southern Anti-Racism Network to make sure that the AmRen conference didn't happen smoothly. And it didn't. AmRen 2011 was canceled. And in its place, Charlotte had a forum on combating white supremacy.

Every two years since the mid 1990s American Renaissance, a white supremacist magazine loaded to the brim with pseudo-science about the supposed genetic inferiority of non-whites run the by the New Century Foundation, holds its conference, usually in the metro Washington DC area where the mag is based.

An alien on the wrong planet

I can deal okay with one on one interactions, but social interactions involving more people are very difficult for me. I cannot initiate social conversations or join an ongoing conversation with others. I cannot participate in group conversations. I don't know well how to act in social situations and what is expected of me. It's hard for me to figure out what people really mean with their body language and vague comments. I usually end up sitting somewhere alone, observing the others, pretty withdrawn from what's going on around me. It's hard for me to fit in and participate. I often get bored and sometimes I feel very lonely in social situations. I'm fine when I'm alone, but when I'm in a room full of people and cannot interact with any of them and feel ignored because even people who I know don't try to talk to me, I start feeling like an alien on the wrong planet and it's a lonely feeling.

Social situations are usually full of sensory input, which can be hard on my sensitive senses. Lights, smells, noises and constant movement around me can exhaust my senses and make me feel unwell. Crowded rooms are the worst for my senses.

Unexpected events and surprises can be hard to handle too.

Social situations are very difficult, draining and exhausting for me. Sometimes I have a meltdown afterward due to being overwhelmed, or simply feel very tired and need some time to heal and gain back some energy.

Friends will come. They will use, hurt and betray you, then they will go. The same goes for family. And to any young people out there reading this, pay close attention and learn.
Let my own lack of a voice be heard

Self-destructive man feels completely alienated, utterly alone. He's an outsider to the human community. He thinks to himself, "I must be insane." What he fails to realize is that society has, just as he does, a vested interest in considerable losses, in catastrophes. These wars, famines, floods, and quakes meet well-defined needs. Man wants chaos. In fact, he's gotta have it: depression, strife, riots, murder, all this dread. We're irresistibly drawn to that almost orgiastic state created out of death and destruction. It's in all of us; We revel in it.

Sure, the media tries to put a sad face on these things, painting them up as great human tragedies. But, we all know the function of the media has never been to eliminate the evils of the world, no. Their job is to persuade us to accept those evils and get used to living with them. The powers-that-be want us to be passive observers. Hey, got a match? And, they haven't given us any other options outside the occasional, purely symbolic, participatory act of voting. You want the puppet on the right? or the puppet on the left? I feel that the time has come to project my own inadequacies and dissatisfaction into the sociopolitical and scientific schemes. Let my own lack of a voice be heard.

Fear or laziness?

There are two kinds of sufferers in this world: those who suffer from a lack of life, and those who suffer from an over-abundance of life. I have always found myself in the second category. When you come to think of it, almost all human behavior and activity is not, essentially, any different from animal behavior. The most advanced technologies and craftsmanship bring us, at best, up to the super-chimpanzee level. Actually, the gap between, say, Plato or Nietzsche, and the average human is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human. The realm of the real spirit, the true artist, the saint, the philosopher, is rarely achieved. Why so few? Why is world history and evolution not stories of progress, rather this endless and futile addition of zeros? No greater values have developed. Hell, the Greeks 3,000 years ago were just as advanced as we are. So what are these barriers that keep people from reaching anywhere near their real potential. The answer to that can be found in another question, and that's this: which is the most universal human characteristic: fear or laziness?

"True love"

Does it exist? No. It is simply a cognitive illusion, a trick of the mind. Let us count the ways. Contrary to the anatomy referenced in all of your favorite love songs, love (as with every other emotion you feel) is not rooted in the heart, but in the brain. (Unfortunately, Hallmark has no plans to mass-produce chocolate-covered arrow-pierced brains in the near future.) By better understanding how the brain falls in love, you can learn about why the brain can get so obsessed with this bullshit emotion. In fact, some scientists even see love as a sort of addiction. For instance, neuroscientist Thomas Insel and colleagues at Emory University in Atlanta discovered that monogamous pair bonding has its basis in the same brain reward circuits that are responsible for addiction to drugs such as heroin. This explains why it is so hard for weak people to break up a long-term romantic relationship. Losing someone they "love" is like going through withdrawal.

Empty meaningless blackness

I sat on the bed. I looked at the Rorschach blot. I tried to make it look like a spreading tree, shadows pooled beneath it, but it didn't. It looked more like a dead cat I once found, the fat, glistening grubs writhing blindly, squirming over each other, frantically tunneling away from the light. But even that isn't the real horror. The horror is this: in the end, it is simply a picture of empty meaningless blackness.

Canisters are hurled into the sky, exploding into smoke as they hit the ground, only to kicked back towards the police. Purple smoke billows into the air, making its way upward, encircling the towering buildings. The sound of shots fills the street, as police fire round after round of pepper balls into the crowd. Your proletarian hero is at it again. I'm in the southwest now, Phoenix to be exact, and I'm standing on what appears to be a completely deserted street in the heart of the desert. Save of course for three groups: the anarchists, the Nazis, and the police.

Appeals Court Holds that Email Privacy Protected by Fourth Amendment

In a landmark decision issued today in the criminal appeal of U.S. v. Warshak, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the government must have a search warrant before it can secretly seize and search emails stored by email service providers. Closely tracking arguments made by EFF in its amicus brief, the court found that email users have the same reasonable expectation of privacy in their stored email as they do in their phone calls and postal mail.

EFF filed a similar amicus brief with the 6th Circuit in 2006 in a civil suit brought by criminal defendant Warshak against the government for its warrantless seizure of his emails. There, the 6th Circuit agreed with EFF that email users have a Fourth Amendment-protected expectation of privacy in the email they store with their email providers, though that decision was later vacated on procedural grounds. Warshak's appeal of his criminal conviction has brought the issue back to the Sixth Circuit, and once again the court has agreed with EFF and held that email users have a Fourth Amendment-protected reasonable expectation of privacy in the contents of their email accounts.

As the Court held today,

"Given the fundamental similarities between email and traditional forms of communication [like postal mail and telephone calls], it would defy common sense to afford emails lesser Fourth Amendment protection.... It follows that email requires strong protection under the Fourth Amendment; otherwise the Fourth Amendment would prove an ineffective guardian of private communication, an essential purpose it has long been recognized to serve.... [T]he police may not storm the post office and intercept a letter, and they are likewise forbidden from using the phone system to make a clandestine recording of a telephone call--unless they get a warrant, that is. It only stands to reason that, if government agents compel an ISP to surrender the contents of a subscriber's emails, those agents have thereby conducted a Fourth Amendment search, which necessitates compliance with the warrant requirement...."
